May 31, 2023 – Voxel sensorA 3D perception technology provider, announced that it will announce its "Switching Pixel Activity Event Sensor" (SPAES) solution on December 10, 2018, and make the world premiere of the related Andromeda evaluation kit. American AWE 2023 this week.

VoxelSensors' Switching Pixels Active Event Sensor is a new class of ultra-low power and ultra-low latency 3D perception sensor for Extended Reality (XR), seamlessly merging the physical and digital worlds.

XR device makers need low-power and low-latency 3D perception technologies that seamlessly blend the physical and digital worlds to unlock the true potential of immersive experiences. VoxelSensors' patented Switching Pixels Active Event Sensor technology addresses these significant challenges, and the company says its solution achieves thresholds in terms of power consumption below 10 milliwatts and latency below 5 milliseconds. Furthermore, according to VoxelSensors, this is possible while being resistant to indoor and outdoor lighting at a distance of more than 5 meters and immune to crosstalk.

The technology offers an alternative to traditional 3D sensors, eliminating the need for slow frames. It sends 3D data points serially to devices and applications in real time with a nanosecond refresh rate. Designed for efficiency, SPAES delivers the lowest latency for perception applications at the lowest power consumption, addressing previously unmet needs such as precise segmentation, spatial mapping, anchoring, and natural interaction.

"SPAES disrupts the standard for 3D perception," said Christian Mourad, co-founder and vice president of engineering at VoxelSensors. "Andromeda evaluation kits will be available to selected OEMs and integrators in summer 2023, demonstrating our commitment to advancing XR/AR/MR and VR applications. However, this innovation is not limited to extended reality, extending to robotics, automotive industry, drones and medical applications.”

VoxelSensors was founded in 2020 by a group of seasoned experts in the field of 3D sensing and perception with over 50 years of collective experience. The team's successes include co-inventing an efficient 3D time-of-flight sensor and camera technology, which Sony acquired in 2015.

Earlier this month, VoxelSensors Announcement of an investment of 5 million euros Led by Belgian venture capital firms Capricorn Partners and Qbic, investment firm finance&invest.brussels as well as existing investors and teams provided funding. The funding will help strengthen VoxelSensors' roadmap, talent acquisition, and strengthen client relationships in the U.S. and Asia, the company said.

“At VoxelSensors, our goal is to merge the physical and digital realms until they are indistinguishable,” said Johannes Peeters, co-founder and CEO of VoxelSensors. “As extended reality gains momentum, we have a responsibility to discover, create, work and play in areas such as gaming, healthcare and manufacturing. Our Switching Pixels Active Event Sensor technology is poised to pioneer transformative user experiences !"
