Microsoft Flight Simulator will launch a standalone sequel on PC and Xbox Series X|S in 2024, but Asobo Studio has not yet confirmed official PC VR support.

one Formal FAQ Flight Sim 2024 will be built on the "significantly evolved" Asobo Studio engine and is a "standalone simulator and next-gen sequel" to the previous version of Microsoft Flight Simulator, the company said. "This brand new emulator is designed to take full advantage of the latest technology," Microsoft said. While PC VR support hasn't been mentioned yet, considering 10%'s users are playing the 2020 version exclusively in VR, we wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't supported.

The release of Flight Sim 2024 doesn't mean that support for previous games will end. The team confirmed in the FAQ: "We will continue to publish our Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) roadmap, which includes content for aircraft and avionics updates, simulator updates, city and world updates." Current aircraft and airports will be in Support continues in Flight Sim 2024, as well as previously purchased Marketplace add-ons (with "very few exceptions").

Microsoft also revealed aDune Cross-Platform Project, which lets you fly directly on "an authentically detailed Atreides family craft" over the desert planet Arrakis. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 will be available through Game Pass Ultimate on Windows 10/11, Steam, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox Cloud Gaming. We've reached out to Microsoft for official comment on VR support, and we'll update this page once we know more.
