Fashion meets live music through augmented reality technology.
Snap, the company behind social media app Snapchat, is teaming up with Verizon to bring its immersive augmented reality (AR) mirrors to music festivals this summer.
These AR mirrors will allow festival attendees to use popular Snapchat lenses powered by machine learning technology, according to advertising trade publication Adweek. These include the infamous Shook Lens, which turns users into what I can only describe as brutal serial killers. The popular cartoon 3D-style lens may also be available, according to images provided by Snap.
In-person attendees of these specific events can scan a QR code to unlock a 3-month subscription to Snapchat+, a premium subscription service that offers experimental and pre-release features.
Jill Popelka, Head of AR Enterprise Services at Snap, said, "There's no doubt that Snapchatter is making a big splash at live music scene events and is looking forward to the summer festival season. We're very excited to be working with Verizon ...... also showcasing the versatility of our AR mirrors to provide brands with a live immersive experience."
The installation debuted at New York's Dominator Ball earlier this month and will return at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival from June 15-18. We're currently unsure which other music festivals will showcase Snap's AR mirrors, so keep an eye out for them next time you're at a rave!
I had the chance to try out a version of Snap's AR mirror technology at the Snap Partner Summit earlier this year. When I walk up to the "mirror," I'm instantly in virtual clothing that matches my body and follows me in real time. There is no doubt that these kinds of virtual try-on experiences will become more common in the coming years.
