微软宣布公开预览了Azure Remote Rendering对Meta Quest 2和Quest Pro的支持,这意味着开发者可以在云端渲染复杂的3D内容,并将其实时流式传输到这些VR头显。

Azure Remote Rendering already supports the desktop and the company's AR headset HoloLens 2, specifically using a hybrid rendering approach to combine remotely rendered content with locally rendered content.

Now supporting Quest 2 and Quest Pro, developers can integrate Microsoft's Azure cloud rendering capabilities to view large and complex models on Quest.

The above JoinXR model took 3.5 minutes to upload and contains 12.6 million polygons and 8K images.

While streaming XR content from the cloud is not a new phenomenon - Nvidia first released its own CloudXR integration in 2021, supporting AWS,Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud — but Microsoft's move to offer direct integration shows the company isn't giving up on virtual reality and is actively looking to bring the enterprise into it.
