Rec Room child accounts coming back to Quest devices, Meta lowers age threshold
The Joker Room Trumpet is coming back to the Metaverse.
An upcoming policy change in the Metaverse leaves a back door for 10- to 12-year-olds in using the Metaverse and online gaming platform Joker's Room.
Last November, Metaverse forced The Clown Room to block users 12 and under from using the app on Quest headsets. This caused the Clown Room to remove support for the "trumpet" feature on the platform. The trumpet is designed for users under the age of 12, and cannot "transmit or hear voice audio," or "send or receive in-game text messages," and cannot use custom room tools, and usernames are randomized. But the trumpet is still supported on other devices in the clown room.
While the Metaverse has in the past allowed Quests to be used only by users 13 and older, this move late last year was the only time the company explicitly enforced that policy. Later this year, the Metaverse will change its policy to officially support 10- to 12-year-olds on Quest 2 and Quest 3, opening the door for the trumpet to return.
"Yes, they're coming back," Nick Fate, CEO of The Clown Room, told UploadVR. "We think they're an important safety feature for kids, and we're excited to bring them back to the Quest platform."
