Google发布全新的AR游戏《Space Invaders:World Defense》

Author: unknown
Release date: May 11, 2023

Earlier this year, Google announced an upcoming AR game, Space Invaders: World Defense, as a showcase for the company's latest AR tools. Now we can finally get a glimpse of the game in action.

Update (July 5, 2023):Developer Taito showed off Space Invaders: World Defense in action for the first time.

The game is now available on the Google Play StorePre-registration(coming soon to the Apple App Store), but aside from pointing at and destroying floating enemies, it doesn't offer much detail about how the game actually works.

SPACE INVADERS returns in a different dimension this time, intending to conquer the world. Join the battle as part of the World Defense Corps to find and defeat SPACE INVADERS near home. As a member of an elite force of pilots, you will defend your turf in this unprecedented immersive gaming experience.Go on an interdimensional quest between augmented reality and the world of parallel invaders. Success will earn you a spot on the leaderboard, along with special rewards and ability boosts.

To be fair, engaging augmented reality gaming through a phone screen is difficult. But as augmented reality headsets become more common, games like this will have a chance to make a big difference.

What follows is the original text, which covers the game's original announcement.

New Tool Geospatial Creator Launched

Over the past few years, Google has been steadily developing ARCore, its AR developer toolset. This week at Google IO 2023, the company added a brand new tool to its toolset calledGeospatial Creator.

GeoCreator enables developers to create world-anchored digital content that will appear in the same location for all users. Built on 3D data from ARCore and Google Maps, Geo Creator competes with Niantic's Lightship AR platform and will offer integrations for Unity and Adobe Aero.

To showcase ARCore's latest capabilities, Google has teamed up with Taito Corporation, creators of the arcade classic Space Invaders (1978), to create a new city-scale AR game called Space Invaders: World Defense.

Space Invaders: World Defense is scheduled for release this summer, which coincidentally coincides with the original game's 45th anniversary. The game will purportedly allow players to "defend Earth from the threat of alien space invasion in their own neighborhood" and will "combine augmented reality and 3D gameplay to deliver a fully ambient and highly engaging immersive experience that connects multiple connection between generations of players."

Sadly, we haven't seen any footage of actual gameplay content, so exactly how the game will work is unclear, but hopefully we'll be able to learn from the game'sOfficial websiteGet more information.
