Dyschronia: Chronos Alternate – Episode 3 is now available on Quest

Dyschronia: Chronos Alternate – Episode 3 ends with "The End of the Illusion," the epilogue to MyDearest's trilogy of series, offering a pleasant but slightly drawn-out conclusion.

Playing special supervisor Hal Sion, the third installment takes place with Astrum Close on the brink of destruction after he escapes a nightmarish scenario. With the truth finally within reach, Hal and his friends work together to finally save the city. For spoiler reasons, I'm keeping this description vague, but episode three's progression towards a compelling story-driven conclusion kept me interested.

If you haven't played Episode 2 since its original release, the simple and straightforward control scheme will feel easy to pick up. Through joystick-driven artificial travel and teleportation, Hal manipulates objects through motion control, often by scanning objects to witness ephemeral memories. Some events can be altered to stop things like people being harmed by security robots. Reminds me of "Ghostbusters" (Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective), it's just that you change people's behavior, not manipulate the environment.

While Dyschronia is a linear journey for the most part, the early stages of episode three are relatively free-ranging in terms of scope. There won't be any new courtroom scenarios this time around, but you'll have to shuttle between several stealth scenarios, like dodging drones or attacking enemies. However, unlike previous episodes, Hal cannot return to a previous point in time at any time and cannot retry. When the game ending is reached, all previous scenarios can be replayed.

As immersive as I continued to play the detective, I didn't enjoy the new puzzles. Not because the game mechanics are faulty--they're not overly challenging, but they're not a breeze either, and checking the environment always gives the answer. My problem is that there is a companion named Lily who keeps over explaining the situation. It's slightly frustrating and disrupts the pace of the game when you're figuring out the next move and can't make it.

Thankfully, this didn't seriously detract from the main story, and Episode Three wraps up the storyline nicely over five hours of gameplay. It gives the story a satisfying conclusion, answers some long-standing questions, and provides the characters with much-needed emotional redemption. These scenes are further set off by an excellent score with accompanying melodious piano melodies.

It's worth noting that the third episode has multiple endings, although I won't spoil the content. The first two endings are immediately attainable, and I would consider them among the "bad" and "better" outcomes. Previous decisions don't matter, only a replayable choice determines the ending. Unlocking the true ending requires watching all of the memories in each episode, and finding them can become tedious if you're not looking carefully.

Despite these issues, Dyschronia: Chronos Alternate is still an enjoyable VR adventure with an engaging puzzle that feels like a big step up from MyDearest's earlier titles. Despite my misgivings about the game's pacing, episode three still offers a satisfying ending that continues the original storyline nicely, though it takes some work to get to the actual ending. If you liked the previous episodes, "The End of Illusion" probably won't disappoint you.

《Dyschronia: Chronos Alternate》现已在Meta Quest 2和PSVR 2上以19.99美元的价格上架,第二集和第三集的DLC可单独购买,每个DLC价格为14.99美元。
