Roblox即将登陆Meta Quest VR头戴设备。这款流行的游戏创作平台,也可以被称为元宇宙,将首先在Quest App Lab上推出,预计“在未来几周内”推出,上线Quest Store。

App Lab is sharing apps by URL and will not show up in the store interface unless searched by exact name. Roblox has 66 million daily active users and 200 million monthly active users, about as many as Minecraft and Fortnite combined. It is said that more than half of this user group are American children under the age of 16. About 45% of Roblox users are under the age of 13.

The official minimum age for the Meta Quest headset is 13, but later this year that will drop to 10 with the launch of Meta's teen account. However, like any Rec Room or Population One player will tell you, many kids over the age of 10 are already using Quest 2.

Roblox allows creators to import custom models and run custom Lua scripts, so performance can vary significantly between different experiences (Roblox worlds). However, on a VR platform, good performance is more important than on a non-VR platform, because the jitters and stuttering caused by dropped frames in VR can make many people sick. To address this, Roblox is adding a new device type checkbox called "VR" in the experience settings. This checkbox will be checked by default for experiences that use the default player script, but will be unchecked by default for all other experiences. Roblox hopes this public beta will give creators enough time to make sure their experiences work well on VR devices.

Roblox has supported PC-based VR for a long time, and this VR checkbox also applies to PC VR. Last month, Roblox replaced its standalone SteamVR and Oculus PC API integration with OpenXR. This includes support for Quest Link, Rift and Rift S, Valve Index and HTC Vive.

Roblox may be one of the most important games to hit the Quest platform to date, potentially helping Meta sell the upcoming Quest 3 to a broader, younger market than any previous VR headset. However, this could divert user attention and usage away from Meta's own Horizon Worlds user-generated content platform.
