One of the most famous video games of all time returns to smart devices as an immersive augmented reality experience.
To celebrate the 45th anniversary of the iconic 1978 video game Space Invaders, game developer Tetu and Google this week announced SPACE INVADERS: World Defense, a game now available on iOS andandroidAugmented reality used on the device (AR) mobile game.
Similar to the original arcade classic, this location-based mobile gaming experience challenges you to defend Earth from alien invaders seeking world domination. Unlike this, however, Space Invaders: Global Defense leverages ARCore and geospatial APIs to blend virtual elements with real environments.
According to Google, enemies will emerge from behind nearby buildings and landscapes and react based on real-time real-world conditions. These conditions include the local time and weather in your location. You can also discover new space invaders and power-ups by exploring the real world. Of course, you can easily snap some augmented reality selfies too.
“Augmented reality is merging the real and digital worlds, changing the way people shop, learn, entertain and interact with content,” Stevan Silva, senior product manager at Google, said in an official statement. “Brands and creators can use augmented reality to bring their content closer to people and help them experience the world in a whole new dimension.”
"Our recentGeospatial creator announced, which enables developers, creators and animators to easily create and publish immersive location-based augmented reality experiences, without coding, and within the tools they already know and love, Unity and Adobe Aero,” he added.
