Tea For God is a multi-year project at The Void Room, led by indie developer Jarek Ciupiński. Previous demos of the project on different platforms are now available for purchase as a full version for $19.99.
The game is unique in that it dynamically adapts to your play area, using procedural generation to create "impossible spaces" that allow players infinite movement within their own room.
This system is somewhat similar to Eye of the Temple, allowing you to play room-scale and physically move around without running out of space or exiting the play area. However, Tea For God adapts to the variable size and shape of your play area, while Eye of the Temple requires a minimum 2m x 2m square space.
The gameplay of the game is very customizable, allowing for experiences that range from "relaxing strolls to intense arcade shooters... to roguelite shooting adventures." The game has three modes, an experience-based entry mode, a mode with standard rules, and a mode with more advanced rules. Additionally, the game has three additional options for handling failure, with options to continue immediately, restart the level, or die permanently.
Tea For God now also supports joystick-based smooth movement as an alternative, though the game's developers recommend using physical movement instead.
Tea For God has been available as a work-in-progress on Itch.io for PC VR and sideloaded Quest for the past few years. The official demo version was originally released on Itch and Quest's App Lab at the end of October 2021, and the official SteamVR version was originally planned for 2022.
Although the 2022 time window may have been missed, it is now possible to passSteamVR,Oculus Rift StoreandQuest App LabBuy the full version. On the latter, it supports all Quest headsets from the original Quest to the Pro, with the option to fully play with hand tracking, a feature arriving as early as 2020.
