Netflix has no current plans to launch a native app on Apple's Vision Pro
根据Bloomberg的Mark Gurman报道,据称Netflix将不会开发适用于Apple VisionPro的原生应用程序。
In this week's Power On Newsletter, Gurman discusses options for developers to support Apple Vision Pro and create custom native apps for the platform. As Apple announced at its recent Vision Pro launch event, the headset will support iPhone and iPad apps that can run unmodified on visionOS, as well as those that have been optimized or built from the ground up.
Gurman reports that Netflix will forego development of the latter type of visionOS-native app. Gurman has heard that "the company has no current plans to develop a native app for the Vision Pro," but "will still allow its iPad app to run unmodified on the headset."
Netflix did previously launch a custom VR app for the Quest, which puts users in a cabin environment with a large TV screen showing Netflix content (pictured above). However, the app has few customization options and hasn't been updated or changed in a long time.
Given what the Quest is doing, it's not overly surprising that Netflix isn't planning an immediate big break with the Vision Pro. In terms of other streaming services, Disney+ has confirmed that it will launch with a custom native app for visionOS on day one, while Gurman speculated in this week's newsletter that Amazon's Prime Video app may also be coming to Apple's headsets.
