Game studio Toast Interactive to unveil second VR game

Australian studio Toast Interactive will reveal its second VR game at Gamescom later this month.

Based on the Gold Coast (also known as the proud land of Australia and home to the traditional Barbie-like Margot Robbie), Toast Interactive has been quiet about its upcoming new VR game, the The unveiling will take place on the first day of this month's Gamescom in Cologne, Germany. The studio has previously stated that they are working on a "more ambitious and higher-budget" game, scheduled for release in late 2023.

"We've been working on our new VR title for years, and we're super excited to be showing off our second game at Gamescom this year," Richard Easte, co-store manager at Toast Interactive, said in a prepared statement this week. "Yes, it's not just a certain Richard, it's Richard from Plank Experience.

Richie's Plank Experience first launched in 2017 and has since landed on almost every VR platform. The concept is pretty simple: walk in virtual reality on a plank suspended from a skyscraper, which could be teetering at any moment, threatening a horrific fall.

In addition to other mechanisms such as flying, the most attractive thing about the whole game is this simple core concept. It doesn't just play on the common fear of heights, but it does so in a way that showcases the instant immersion of virtual reality.

Countless viral videos of Richie's Plank players being too scared to move, jumping into the void or crashing into their TV sets make this experience one of the most memorable in VR.

Stay tuned for more details later this month.
