Startup Immersed announces 'Visor' headset
Startup Immersed, developer of virtual display apps, just announced an ultra-high-end headset focused on productivity.

目前,Immersed已为Meta Quest、Vive Focus 3和PICO 4提供免费应用,该应用使您可以在虚拟现实中查看您的PC显示器,并允许您生成全虚拟额外的显示器,最多可达5个显示器。

The startup says they've seen users spend 40-50 hours a week working on Immersed, which they claim is "the most widely used spatial computing software in the world".

However, standalone headsets like the Quest and PICO are relatively heavy, have much lower viewing angle resolution than real displays, and run feature-rich system software that lengthens the time between wearing the headset and entering an app. So Immersed is now building its own headset, called the Visor, designed specifically for its productivity use case.

Visor is being developed with Qualcomm in a "strategic partnership" on devices, Intel on PCs, and "undisclosed AR/VR technology giants" that will be revealed later this year. It supports Windows, Mac and Linux.

Immersed claims the headset is designed for "all-weather" comfort, is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, and is lighter than your average smartphone.

The immediate comparison many will draw is the Bigscreen Beyond, another ultra-compact headset from a startup that started out as a VR software only company. Similar to Beyond, Visor will also customize the lens spacing according to each buyer's interpupillary distance.

But technically, Visor is more ambitious. While the Bigscreen Beyond connects via cable and requires a SteamVR tracking base station, the Visor has a built-in chipset and battery for wireless mode and has built-in tracking from Qualcomm.

Visor is also equipped with a "4K" OLED micro-display for each eye, while Beyond uses a 2.5K OLED micro-display, and Visor also has "HD" color transparent transmission function, so you can see the real world.

However, the Visor is also more limited in scope. Whereas the Beyond is a general-purpose SteamVR headset, the Visor is designed for use with Immersed's productivity software. Immersed claims this custom hardware-software model means your virtual workspace will be available "within seconds" after the PC boots up, but it also means the product isn't intended for VR gaming or social platforms.

Visor is expected to ship in 2024. Pre-order invites will be sent out later this year and are live nowregister。Immersed尚未公布价格,但表示价格将低于3500美元的苹果VisionPro.
