August 9, Enterprise Spatial Computing Inc.Magic Leapannounced its flagship platformMagic Leap 2A series of major updates. In a recent blog post, the company announced that the Magic Leap 2 platform introduces several new features and capabilities designed to enhance collaboration, immersion and the development experience in the enterprise space.
New features of the device includeAR Cloudand a native web browser, as well as major improvements to existing features, making development for the Magic Leap 2 platform easier, and product performance and functionality enhanced.
The AR Cloud capability on Magic Leap 2 enables multiple users to access persistent, large-scale digital content in real time that is integrated with their physical environment. AR Cloud leverages the device's advanced sensor and camera capabilities to build detailed scans and meshes of physical spaces in "shared spaces," enabling multiple users to interact with the same virtual content regardless of their geographic location. Administrators can create spaces, manage scans, manage large-scale digital twin deployments, and monitor access to Magic Leap 2 devices through the web-based console. With AR Cloud, Magic Leap 2 users have unlimited access to shared spaces to work with anyone, anywhere. AR Cloud requires a Developer Professional or Enterprise license and provides additional server-side components.
Another key enhancement to Magic Leap 2 is the introduction of a native web browser that enables users to access web content, conduct WebRTC video conferencing and share materials through popular platforms such as Microsoft Teams and Google Meet, and interact with immersive WebXR experiences . The web browser displays the website at a resolution of 1065 x 616px. Download is supported, and select Magic Leap 2 apps can also be downloaded and installed from the device. In addition, the new web browser enables remote collaboration through streaming of virtual content and "see what I see" functionality.
Hand tracking has also been enhanced to make interacting with digital content more intuitive and immersive. As a result, users will experience more stable, lower-latency operation, while a new "wrist tap" gesture has also been added to make it easier to open the main menu. Additionally, limited touch interaction will be available in select apps, allowing users to interact directly with content without using a controller. Hand tracking is automatically deactivated while the controller is active to reduce distractions, and improvements have been made to the virtual keyboard and other OS elements to make target selection easier.
Magic Leap's proprietary dynamic dimming technology has also been upgraded. Automatically adjusts to ambient light conditions, ensuring digital content remains readable and vibrant in a variety of enterprise environments, including architectural visualization and medical applications.
Magic Leap 2's mixed reality capture feature allows developers and users to take 2D photos and videos, capturing real-world views of the device experience and superimposed digital content. With this update, Magic Leap has improved its mixed reality capture capabilities, improving capture quality, reducing artifacts, and adding new camera controls such as exposure, bright light conditions, background tint, and more.
Finally, Magic Leap is gradually expanding developer access to data from the sensor stack and increasing data transparency. Developers now have greater access to a range of sensor data and expanded data transparency measures. Magic Leap said that developers can now access data from sensors such as RGB cameras, world cameras, depth sensors, eye cameras, inertial measurement units (IMUs), magnetometers, ambient light sensors, altimeters, and microphones through APIs to build more intelligent devices. Algorithms and applications of value.
The company notes that apps accessing sensor data must request explicit user acceptance before providing data via the API, and that onlookers will be notified via LED lights when an app needs to capture sensors in the user's environment.
