Phobia reworks the progression of the game with the "Ascension" update, adding a new leveling system and gear tiers.

In early beta, Ascension updated Phobia to version 0.9. There are quite a few changes detailed on Steam. It's mostly about a new leveling system that implements "new progress speeds, new unlocks, and a reputation system." Developer Kinetic Games explained that in order for this system to work, existing players need to be reset to reputation 1, while new players start at 0 reputation.

Details of more changes to Ascension, gear now has three tiers and "requires a significant amount of money to unlock." DOTS proofs have been "refactored from the ground up," rewards have been adjusted, and Kinetic has replaced the old training tasks. Also expanded the self-management settings, which can block other players.

In terms of specific SteamVR changes, Phobia now supports Quest Pro and Vive Focus 3 headsets, and adds "better support for the new HTC VR headsets." For VR headset collisions, now adds Added a fade-in effect, renamed "VR Smooth Monitor View" to "Social Screen Mode," and Ascension removed the distortion of the VR parametric microphone glass.

However, we're not getting any closer to knowing when Kinetic Games will bring Phobia to PSVR 2. While announcing a launch alongside the Xbox Series X|S and PS5 platforms in June, Kinetic also confirmed that a console version is planned for late August, though the exact release date remains unknown. We will provide you with more information as soon as possible.

Phobia is out now in early beta on Steam for PC VR.
