Bringing the social VR experience to new platforms, VRChat mobile alpha is now available on Android.

Announced in March as an Android alpha, VRChat will initially be limited to VRChat Plus subscribers and an optional paid subscription service. While all Quest content can be viewed on Android, the team says it might not be available since it's designed for VR. Mobile users will eventually display a "Mobile" tab above their heads, but the current version will likely read "Quest."

The VRChat team highlighted several caveats. "We want to make it clear that this is an alpha release - and we really mean alpha. There are a lot of things in this release that are definitely not final," the team said in their FAQ. The studio explained that they are working on the issue , but now switching between mobile network and WiFi may "possibly disconnect."

As for hardware requirements, the team suggests that mid-range Android phones "should be fine" as long as they have at least 6GB of RAM and Android OS 10. On the iOS side, the release is in the works, and the team says it's going "pretty well," but warns that there could be "a lot of snags," so they're not ready to make any announcements yet.

The VRChat mobile alpha is now available for download on Google Play. Regarding the official launch, the studio is currently focusing on gathering feedback and updating the mobile version. "We hope to release it within this year, but there is no specific date yet," they said.
