SideQuest and Creature are launching $1 million in standalone VR funding

The future of indie virtual reality (VR) gaming looks bright.

SideQuestis a popular VR content platform that specializes in independent games and applications, and announced this week that it has partnered with mixed reality developer Creature to launch a $1 million creator fund dedicated to independent VR developers.

Creators are encouraged to submit their original VR game proposals directly to Creature via an online application, which opens on August 18. SideQuest COO Orla Harris said in an official press release: "Since we started SideQuest, we've been asked a lot why we don't sign/publish games ourselves. The simple answer is: We've never had the expertise before. .”

The release also states: "Historically, our focus has been to support developers, but it took us time to learn, grow, and build relationships with industry experts. Doug North Cook and the Creature team were those experts. Now, we have Funding. Together, we will help more indie developers publish games while expanding the possibilities of virtual reality."

Creature CEO Doug North Cook added: “SideQuest has an excellent reputation for supporting developers in finding an audience before launching a game. Numbers like Gorilla Tag, Ancient Dungeon VR, We Are All One, and more Hundreds of games benefit from the community that SideQuest has built."

He also said: "We know that the best VR games have yet to be discovered, and many of them will come from unexpected places, like most of our current favorite VR games. The teams that make these next great games will Benefit from the accumulated experience, support and funding provided by this partnership."
