Explore a sprawling mansion inhabited by realistic ghosts in this immersive re-creation.

Developer Vertigo Games, the team behind well-known VR titles Arizona Sunshine and After the Fall, just announced the release date for their latest game, The Seventh Guest VR. Revealed during the Gamescom 2023 opening preview, the terrifying-looking experience is directly inspired by the '90s click-and-view game of the same name.

The game is set in the magnificent mansion owned by wealthy toymaker Henry Stauf. The mysterious hermit invites six guests to his estate, which harbors a dark and baffling force. According to the official game page, we can expect quite a few puzzles to solve as we explore the run-down mansion and unlock new rooms to find answers.

Along with the official release date, Vertigo Games has released a new trailer showing never-before-seen in-game footage. The video also showcases some of the ghosts we'll be interacting with, all captured using volumetric video technology for a realistic effect.

Paul van der Meer, game director for The Seventh Guest VR, said: "With The Seventh Guest VR, we aim to push the boundaries of what's possible in virtual reality, just as the original game did on disc. The story trailer showcases true volumetric capture of fruition at this level, giving players a taste of the tension as they watch the characters explore the strange happenings in the mansion and the sinister reasons for their being brought there.
