Shell Corporation Further Improves 'I Count on You to Die' Series with Release of 'Cogs in the Machine'

I Expect You To Die 3: Cog In The Machine is out now on the Quest headset, with a Steam release coming in September.

We're still finishing our review (IEYTD's puzzles are really challenging), and in the meantime, we've talked to development studio Schell Games about the intricacies of the game's design as part of our Upload Access series.

Schell Games is one of the more experienced studios in VR, and we wanted to gain insight into their evolving approach to design. So far, we've seen how they've worked hard to make Dr. Prism a full-fledged villain, got a hands-on look at its wider environment, and analyzed the game's eye-catching title credits design.

In this final article of our series, I want to know what to expect from future I Expect You To Die games. With three successful and well-received VR puzzle games, putting spy fantasy at the top of the pile, what's next for Schell Games?

“We filled it with the best things we could think of, but we were far from running out of ideas,” said Francisco Souki, lead game designer at Schell Games. “If VR continues to grow like it does now, if people like us Enjoyed them as much as I made them, and I personally will keep making them until no one else wants them, I think. There will never be a shortage of ideas for games of this type."

Schell Gameshome pageDefined the studio as "your gaming expert" and built a reputation for helping any major company test new ideas. After a deep dive with Schell Games on a number of I Expect You To Die titles, we saw that their real strength lies in how to plan and execute successful interactive games on the cutting edge. With this reputation, will future new works in the "I Expect You To Die" series bring players a fully immersive and engaging villain interaction experience?

Schell Games is just waiting for the right moment.

"In that scene where you're sitting opposite the villain playing blackjack, you're playing cards and it's right in front of your eyes," says Matthew Mahon, project lead at Schell Games. "We can't meaningfully do that right now. Maybe we can, but it's not perfect enough, right? So we know we have to wait until things catch up before we can really pursue something like this."

"I Expect You To Die 3: Cog In The Machine"It's available now on Quest 2 and Quest Pro for $24.99, and you can get it on SteamFavorites list.
