Last year, the design and packaging of the Quest Pro was discovered and posted by a hotel employee a month before it went on sale due to a similar unofficial unboxing video. The Quest 3 packaging shown in the video is very similar to the Quest 2, but the box is significantly smaller, thanks to the headset's thinner design and the lack of rings for the new Touch Plus controllers. Only the headset, controllers, and a small box (likely containing AA batteries and leaflets) are shown in the video, suggesting that the AP's unannounced charging dock, which recently received FCC approval, will be sold separately rather than included. The Associated Press officially announced the Quest 3 in early June, but has yet to confirm all of the headset's specs and features, such as specific resolutions, refresh rates, memory or higher storage tiers. Officials have said the device will have a thinner 40% visor thanks to a pancake-style lens, more than twice the performance of the GPU, and a dual camera and depth sensor for mixed reality and scene understanding. The base model has 128GB of storage and costs $500. However, in the unboxing video, the white cardboard that can be seen attached to the headset may reveal another feature. It seems to describe the ability to adjust the depth of the facial interface to move the lenses further away from the eye, also known as eye relief adjustment, and it's also available on the Quest Pro, Valve Index, HTC Vive, and PlayStation VR headsets. Increasing the depth allows the glasses to adapt to the distance between your eyes and the lenses. Quest 2, however, would require removing the face interface and adding an included "glass spacer" underneath it. In fact, lens depth adjustment was found in the Quest firmware back in February of this year. The Associated Press hasn't revealed an exact release date for Quest 3, but the company has previously unveiled the Quest 2 and Quest Pro at its annual Connect conference, which is scheduled for Sept. 27 this year.
