Looking for new VR games for September 2023? We're rounding up our latest monthly highlights.
August was probably the quietest month for VR gaming this year, with only a handful of games, mostly aimed atPSVR 2. But it doesn't lack popularity. There's I Hope You Die 3, Firewall Ultimate, Crossfire: Sierra Squad, and VR Skateboarder, and we previewed Frontier Robot VR. Other notable releases include Phenomenon, Green Hell VR, Project Riese - Prologue, and The Battle for Existence.

Budget Cuts Ultimate – September 7 (PC VR)
After coming to PSVR 2 and Quest this past June, Budget Cuts Ultimate Edition is now coming to SteamVR. It combines Budget Cuts and Budget Cuts 2: Bankruptcy Missions, which previously released separately for PC VR, into "one coherent adventure." For more details, check out our full review.
"Throw! - September 7 (PC VR, PSVR 2, Quest)
Published by Vertigo Games, Throw! ” is a banana-themed platformer playable on most major VR platforms. Players take on the role of a monkey and climb ladders, swing from tree branches and other platforming challenges, picking bananas as they go.
Yupitgrad 2: The Lost Space Station – September 7 (PC VR)
"Yuptgrad 2: The Lost Space Station" is a VR action-adventure game developed by GameDust. It's been a relatively long time coming, initially as a limited-time exclusive for PICO Neo 3 Link and PICO 4, then coming to Quest in July, and now coming to SteamVR. "Alvo" - September 14 (PSVR 2)
The original PSVR exclusive, Alvo is an arcade-style shooter based on the PlayStation Aim controller. PSVR 2 is equipped with Sense handle tactile feedback and adaptive triggers, supporting cross-platform multiplayer games with PSVR, Quest and PICO versions.
See Through World VR – September 14 (PC VR, PSVR 2, Quest)
Developed by Silver Lining Games, Perspective: The Most Beautiful Landscape debuted two years ago and was directly inspired by director Hayao Miyazaki. This is a "paint and click" adventure game in which you follow Amber, who aspires to be an artist, as she relives her past, deals with the difficulties of daily life, and focuses on completing her masterpiece.
"Twistex" - September 14
"Twistex" is a falling block puzzle game developed by Middle Man Games. In the game, you need to rotate a cylindrical grid to fill it. Two modes are available when it goes online. The Quest version supports seeing through the environment, and objects are affected by real-time lighting. The SteamVR version, due out later this year, does not support see-through environments.
Ruinsmagus: Complete Edition – September 18 (PSVR 2)
Released on Quest 2 and PC VR last year, Ruinsmagus is now brought to PSVR 2 by CharacterBank, a fantasy RPG dungeon crawler where you'll need to strengthen your guild through a variety of story quests. As a "full edition", the game incorporates the changes from the "Warrior and the Tailor" DLC and the Remastered update.
Broken Edge - September 19 (PSVR 2)
Developed by Trebuchet, Broken Edge is a 1-on-1 duel game that supports offline single-player and online multiplayer. Previously released on Quest and PC VR, it emphasizes strategic proficiency over brute force, and you must destroy your opponent's weapons before killing them.
Hellsweeper VR – September 21 (PC VR, PSVR 2, Quest)
Developed by Mixed Realms, Hell Minesweeper VR offers an intense action combat experience. Set in the depths of a fiery hell, your mission is to scavenge demons, craft weapons using a gesture-based system, or wield elemental magic. You can check out our Gamescom 2022 preview for more details.
Paper Beasts - September 27 (PSVR 2)
Paper Beasts was first released three years ago and will now be available on PSVR 2 and a flat version on PS5. A surreal adventure filled with origami-like creatures, Pixel Reef promises enhanced visuals with HDR support and smooth movement mechanics.
"I Hope You Die 3: Cogs in the Machine" - September 28 (PC VR)
Developed by Schell Games, I Hope You Die 3: Cogs in the Machine makes its second appearance in our monthly review thanks to its release on SteamVR. Set in a James Bond-inspired espionage-sci-fi world, the latest entry in the single-player puzzle series focuses on stopping a new villain, Dr. Roxana Crystal.
Islander VR – September 28 (Quest)
A relaxing city-building game, Islander VR is described as "a minimalist strategy game about building a city on a beautiful island." Unlike similar games, resources do not need to be purchased, but building space is limited. A SteamVR version has also been confirmed, but a release date has yet to be confirmed.
System Critical 2 - September 30 (PC VR)
System Critical 2 is developed by Old Formulas and is described as a "retro-style run-and-gun platformer." It's the direct sequel to last year's System Critical: War Against Time, and it's launching on SteamVR this month.
