Supersonic Fight brings the spiritual sequel to Intellisoft's F/A-18 Interceptor, coming to SteamVR next year.
Developed by British studio Red Chain Games, Supersonic Fight is a new flight simulator with optional PC VR support. Thirty years ago, when your team successfully defended the San Francisco Peninsula, your unknown enemy suddenly reappeared. As an F/A-18 Hornet pilot, you'll be tasked with defending your homeland again in a single-player campaign in "challenging" story missions.
Supersonic Fight offers extensive LAN and online battle support, including classic multiplayer game modes such as Dogfight (death match), Team Dogfights (team death match), Capture the Flag and King of the Hill. In 'VIP' mode, one player acts as the controller of Air Force One while the 'Escort Team' is tasked with protecting you, while in 'Defend-and-Attack' mode it is up to you to protect or destroy iconic San Francisco landmarks.
The Steam page confirms HOTAS controller compatibility, a variety of playable aircraft (such as the MiG-29), and an "80s-inspired soundtrack" influenced by Top Gun and Harold Faltmaier. The game also includes a built-in editor for customizable liveries and interacts with the Steam Workshop. Finally, "Free Flight" mode lets you explore San Francisco without combat.
Richard Smith, co-founder of Red Chain Games, said in a prepared statement: "I wanted to recreate the feeling I had when I first played Bob Dinnerman's F/A-18 Interceptor on the Amiga. After several With a decade of experience and the power of a modern gaming PC, I believe I can do it and hopefully give others the same feeling I've experienced."
Supersonic Fight is coming to SteamVR in 2024.
