Eternal Dungeons Review In Progress: The Promise of a Huge VR Collaboration
Eternal Dungeon could be one of the best VR co-op games I've ever played, bringing the fantasy action RPG to Quest next month. Here's our review of what's yet to come.
Dungeons of Eternity focuses on gameplay rather than narrative, and the story is almost non-existent, only explained in the tutorial. The game is set on the planet Eternity, and you're tasked with exploring randomly generated dungeons and overcoming traps to find treasure. That's all the story really needs, and the game feels better for it. You can venture out on your own, but like most games designed as co-op, it's best experienced with others.
Basic Information:
What it is. : A VR fantasy dungeon adventure game with hack-and-slash combat and three-player co-op mode.
Platforms: Quest 2, Quest Pro, Quest 3 (play on Quest Pro)
Release date: October 2023
Developer: Othergate Entertainment
Price: $29.99
Dungeons of Eternity features three different game modes, and I played the "Dungeon Assault" mode prior to release, primarily with Othergate developer and fellow journalist Nicholas Sutrich. This is the more traditional "Dungeon Explorer" option, with multiple paths on each attempt and different obstacles, such as giant swinging axes and lava on narrow paths. Some also involve environmental interactions, such as pulling a lever to open a door or holding a torch in a dark area - small details that enhance immersion nicely.
