Valve: SteamVR 2.0现已推出测试版

Valve has announced that SteamVR 2.0 is now available in beta.

In a statement, the company said it sees SteamVR 2.0 as "the first step in bringing all new features on the Steam platform to VR."

该消息在VR界即将迎来繁忙的一周之际发布。Meta将在几天内举办其年度Connect活动,届时将详细介绍即将在今年秋天推出的最新独立头盔Meta Quest 3的更多细节。

Here’s Valve’s overview of the SteamVR 2.0 beta:

Users who choose to participate in this beta will notice a brand new user interface with a number of new features:

– Most of the existing features of Steam and Steam Deck are now part of SteamVR

– Updated keyboard with support for new languages, emoticons and themes

– Integrated Steam chat and voice chat

- Improved store to make new releases and popular VR games more prominent

SteamVR 2.0 also contains limited additional details about bug fixes and driver changes, which can be found athereturn up.

Valve says this is just the beginning of SteamVR 2.0’s journey. The company will use the beta to "work out kinks" in preparation for the full launch, saying it will have "more to share in the coming weeks and months."

To try SteamVR 2.0, users need to opt inSteam client betaandSteamVR beta.

Valve has been developing SteamVR 2.0 for several years, initially stating in late 2019 that users could "expect" a release in 2020.

We also know Valve is working on another helmet — thanks to job postings and comments from Valve CEO Gabe Newell, as well as an interview with product designer Greg Coomer. There's also some evidence that the helmet may be powered by a dedicated PC.

It is worth noting that in 2019, when Mark Zuckerberg stood on the stage and announced that Facebook would launch a new VR helmet, Valve announced the specifications of its Index VR helmet and opened pre-orders. The move dwarfs the launch of the Oculus Rift S and original Oculus Quest.

With today's SteamVR 2.0 beta release and more details about Quest 3 revealed on Connect, we can't help but wonder if history will repeat itself in four years.
