Meta Meta Quest 3 won't have an exclusive game coming, but it might come soon.
"We don't have any specific Quest 3-exclusive games, so all games launching this holiday season will be available on Quest 2," a Meta representative confirmed. This means that Quest 3 won't have any instant exclusive games when it launches on October 10, but suggests Meta expects these games may appear next year.
It's reminiscent of the generational transition between Quest 1 and Quest 2, with the latter's first exclusive, Resident Evil 4, launching a year later. However, it's worth remembering that the Quest 1 was discontinued when its successor became available, while the Quest 2 will be sold at the same time as the Quest 3.
This doesn't include First Encounters, which Meta considers to be more of an MR tutorial than a full game. First Encounters is a new user experience, only available on Quest 3, where your mission is to break down walls in your real-life environment, find space creatures, and shoot them into rescue ships.
For now, Meta is emphasizing plans for a wider release on both platforms. The pre-release demo stated that "more than 100 new and upgraded games" would be coming to Quest 3 "and the entire Quest platform," and Quest 1 was obviously not among them. It confirmed that "more than 50 of them are brand new games," while the remaining half will get upgrades and mixed reality features.
