The new Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses feature Llama 2-based artificial intelligence voice assistant

Ray-Ban Meta 智能眼镜将配备新宣布的 Meta AI 助手,不过一开始仅限于美国买家。

At the Meta Connect conference, the company announced Ray-Ban Meta as the successor to Ray-Ban Stories. Ray-Ban Stories are first-person camera glasses launched in 2021 that allow you to take photos and videos, answer calls, and listen to music hands-free.

The new Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses feature higher camera quality, more microphones, waterproofing, and better weight distribution for better comfort. They can also be streamed live on Instagram. However, like the original model, they don't feature any display, just an internal LED above the right eye.

But it's worth noting that their most interesting new feature has to do with something else Meta announced today: Meta AI. On mobile, Meta AI will be a text-based conversational assistant available in Messenger and WhatsApp. But on the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, you'll be able to communicate with your assistant by saying "Hey Meta" and hear spoken responses in a completely hands-free way.

Thanks to Meta's Llama large-scale language model, Meta AI should be more advanced than current Alexa, Siri, or Google Assistant.

However, ChatGPT's answers are often quite verbose by default. Meta says they have optimized Meta AI for smart glasses to be concise and keep answers concise.

U.S. consumers will be able to use Meta AI in Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses when they launch in the U.S., and Meta says it will expand availability over time.

Meta says that after a software update is released sometime next year, the assistant on the glasses will also be able to answer questions about what you're currently seeing by passing camera input to a future version of multi-modal Llama.
