The platform first launched as an initial launch title for Oculus Quest in 2019, with an Android mobile version also launching earlier this year.
However, the details of most PC worlds and characters are too complex to run smoothly on mobile chipsets, so VRChat takes a fragmented approach. All worlds and characters must have a mobile-optimized version in order for the creators to want Quest and mobile players to be able to join or use them. Creators can upload two versions of the same content, one for PC and another for mobile devices.
Considering that the PICO 4 uses the same Snapdragon XR2 Gen 1 mobile chipset as the Quest 2, it is almost certain that the PICO 4 will support these mobile versions as well.
Last year, VRChat added controller-less hand tracking support on Quest. PICO 4 also supports hand tracking, and ByteDance recently improved it via a software update, so it's possible that PICO 4 will support this input method as well.
The PICO 4's specs and price place it between the Quest 2 and Quest 3, and it offers a flat lens and a 2K panel while using the original XR2 Gen 1 chip.
We've reached out to VRChat to confirm the listing on the PICO store is accurate and to ask for more details. If we hear back, we will update this article.
