Islanders VR has received a free mixed reality update that lets you build cities in your own home on Quest.
Islanders VR, released earlier this year, is described as a "minimalist strategy game about building a city on a beautiful island." A new addition to the list of mixed reality games on Quest 3, a new perspective update lets you Create islands in your home environment. You can see this in the demo below.
andMetaIn conversation with Meta, Coatsink programmers John Peart and Richard Ashbydisclose, this update took three months to develop. Ashby explained that MR was "something we've been thinking about from the beginning," describing playing games in MR as eliciting "the same feeling as building a model world out of Lego bricks."
Originally released in 2019 for flat-screen platforms, Islanders uses a different approach to city building that does not incur costs in construction resources. Instead, you have an inventory of limited buildings and earn points based on their placement. Accumulate enough points and you'll progress to the next procedurally generated island.
Islanders VR is now available on the Meta Quest platform and Steam, but the MR update is only available on Quest.
