November 16, 2023 – GigXR Company, a provider of holographic medical training, recently announced a partnership with the National University of Singapore’s Faculty of Medicine (NUS Medicine) has launched a new gastrointestinal module for its HoloScenarios app.

According to the company, the new "HoloScenarios: Gastrointestinal" module is designed to enhance the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal diseases in medical and nursing education, integrating ultra-realistic holographic simulated patients and medical devices that can be used in any physical learning environment .

HoloScenarios: Gastrointestinal uses mixed reality (MR) to present comprehensive patient care scenarios that go beyond traditional step-based virtual reality (VR) training. GigXR notes that this approach helps provide a diverse learning experience and engages learners in real-life clinical situations, including emergency procedures and medical decision-making.

The module was developed in collaboration with experts from the National University of Singapore’s Faculty of Medicine and is distributed through GigXR’s immersive learning platform, a tool used by healthcare organizations and MR developers to create and share immersive educational content.

"Gastrointestinal pathology can be complex and challenging. This module will give learners a deep understanding and appreciation of the gastrointestinal tract, especially a three-dimensional understanding of anatomy and body function," said Associate Professor of Surgery, NUS Faculty of Medicine and NUS School of Medicine Deputy Dean (Education) Alfred Kow Wei Chieh said. "We believe mixed reality is the next evolutionary stage in medical training, and partnering with immersive platform innovators like GigXR helps us bring this important content to more learners around the world, ultimately improving patient care."

This module contains realistic patient simulations, allowing learners to practice technical skills and soft skills such as patient empathy and team communication in a safe environment. It also provides enhanced diagnostic and treatment training with the ability to move and interact around holographic images of patients, providing a clear view unlike VR.

"Immersive technologies accelerate the sharing of expertise in teaching, training and simulation technologies. Mixed reality continues to improve the quality and scale of training outcomes with its natural tendency to promote realistic, safe and collaborative learning," said Jared Mermey, CEO of GigXR . “We are extremely proud to partner with the NUS Faculty of Medicine, which has been at the forefront of mixed reality for clinical and educational applications. By bringing their respected expertise to our platform to co-create HoloScenarios’ latest module, We believe there will be major breakthroughs in diagnosing and treating gastrointestinal diseases."

GigXR notes that NUS joins institutions such as the University of Cambridge and the Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH) National Healthcare Foundation, the University of Michigan and Morlen Health (a subsidiary of Northwest Permanente) that are partnering with them to create holographic medical training. Other medical simulations for GigXR include respiratory disease, basic life support, advanced cardiac life support, neuroscience scenarios, and now a gastrointestinal disease module in partnership with the National University of Singapore.

GigXR and the National University of Singapore's Faculty of Medicine plan to launch HoloScenarios: Gastrointestinal Disease Module in spring 2024. For more information about GigXR and its holographic medical training solutions, visit the company’swebsite.
