'Samsung Glasses' Trademark Filed In The UK

the trademarkAppears in the Intellectual Property Office section of the official UK Government website. The trademark was submitted by Samsung Electronics on August 21 and was officially approved for registration on November 10.

When applying for a UK trademark, companies must specify the product categories they wish to cover from an approved, pre-written list, and Samsung has chosen the following product categories:

Virtual reality helmet; augmented reality helmet; head display; smartphone; smart glasses.

An extended reality headset in partnership with Google?

In February this year,Samsung officially announcedAn extended reality headset is being developed, and Google will handle the system software via a new Android variant, with Qualcomm providing the chipset.

In September this year, a South Korean news organization called "Main Economic News"point out, Samsung’s helmet may be priced at about $2,000 and will compete with Apple’sVisionProcompete.

Last month, Qualcomm confirmed plans to launch a mobile phone early next yearQuest The new, more powerful XR chipset in the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 is likely to be the chip that will be used in Samsung devices.

However, "Glasses" seems like an odd brand positioning for a product that might look more like a head-mounted display or goggles. So what might "Samsung Glasses" be?

Smart glasses?

In January 2020, Samsung casually showed off a demo of AR glasses at CES without saying whether it was an upcoming product or even acknowledging what was special about such a device.

Samsung may be preparing to commercialize AR glasses as opposed to extended reality headsets.

Samsung may launch its own version of this type of product, possibly integrated with its Galaxy phones and watches. In this case, it seems a bit strange that the trademark is "Samsung Glasses" instead of "Galaxy Glasses", which may indicate a different brand positioning from Samsung's existing consumer products.
