The Varjo XR-4 series combines the highest resolution displays, foveated capture streaming, advanced LiDAR depth sensing and camera sensors (all of which mimic the functions of the human eye) to deliver virtual and mixed reality that is virtually indistinguishable from natural vision experience according to the company.
Varjo notes that its fourth-generation headset is designed to deliver a deeply immersive VR/XR experience that goes far beyond consumer-grade headsets catering only to 2D productivity use cases, allowing for the need for top-notch visual fidelity and performance.
According to the company, more than 25% Fortune 100 companies are using Varjo's technology for a variety of use cases, including training astronauts and pilots, radically reducing vehicle production time, driving medical breakthroughs, and rendering 3D for architects and designers. Visualization.
Powered by NVIDIA GPUs and Integrated into NVIDIA Omniverse, the XR-4 series allows developers and industrial users to render photorealistic scenes and unlock ray tracing in mixed reality. Varjo said these combined technologies far exceed the computing power a mobile chip can achieve and provide developers with game-changing solutions.
Plus, a Varjo-ready software ecosystem of over 100 third-party PC applications and 3D engines, including Unreal Engine and Unity, integrates the XR-4 Series into demanding jobs in training and simulation, design and engineering, healthcare, and more in process.
"As we enter a period of rapid expansion in mixed reality adoption, we are proud to bridge the gap between human vision and computer vision with our new XR-4 series and drive the industry forward," said Chief Product Officer Patrick Wyatt. Wacho. “Over the past five years, Varjo customers have proven that true innovation happens when the most advanced computing power meets the most immersive XR in the hands of industrial users, and we can’t wait to see the applications unlocked by XR-4 A series of technological breakthroughs.”
Varjo also says it is the first company to bring gaze autofocus mixed reality pass-through tomarketFor VR/XR companies, the feature involves using an autofocus camera that mimics the behavior of the human eye. Key features of the XR-4 Series include:
- Compared with the previous generation device, the dual 4K x 4K display has a resolution of 51 pixels per degree (ppd), a field of view (120° x 105°) wider than 50%, and the display is twice as bright (200 nits). Wider color gamut with 96% DCI-P3;
- Dual 20 Mpx cameras power the device’s high-fidelity, real-time photorealistic video feed to mixed reality;
- Compared to the Varjo XR-3, a new ambient light sensor and 8x improved LiDAR resolution seamlessly blends real and virtual elements;
- Built-in DTS 3D spatial audio with noise-canceling microphone and integrated speakers for collaboration use cases;
- Inside-out tracking and built-in Varjo controllers, powered by Razer, deliver precise interactions and a high degree of tactile immersion, while reducing setup complexity and cost;
- Powered by NVIDIA RTX Ada Generation GPUs and integrated into NVIDIA Omniverse, a platform for connecting complex 3D pipelines and developing OpenUSD-based applications;
- Target Varjo Reality Seamless cloud streaming, sharing, and collaboration in Cloud are optimized to streamline immersive 3D workflows across organizations.
XR-4 Focus Edition
The XR-4 Focal Edition has all the features of the XR-4 but also offers a gaze autofocus camera with further optimized camera resolution for pilot training and other cockpit-based use cases.
XR-4 Security Edition
To meet the needs of government and defense customers, Varjo’s XR-4 Secure Edition headset complies with all government and enterprise-level security requirements, according to the company. Both the XR-4 and XR-4 Focal Edition are available in head-mounted versions that can be completely offline, comply with TAA standards, are RF-free, and are assembled in Finland. Varjo is also expanding its safety manufacturing capabilities with a new facility in Espoo, Finland, where a dedicated manufacturing line for the XR-4 safety version will be operational in December.
Prices for the XR-4 range start at €3,990/$3,990. The new headset is available for enterprise orders immediately, with first shipments starting in December. The Varjo XR-4 Focal Edition headset is also available for demo for the first time this week at: I/ITSEC, the world's largest training, simulation and modeling event.
