“VRChat” now supports Vive XR Elite standalone devices and supports motion tracking through the Ultimate tracker

VRChat is now available on the Vive XR Elite standalone store without a PC.

VRChat remains the main social VR platform with millions of users. InMeta QuestOn headsets, it's almost always one of the top ten most popular apps, and on Steam (which also supports non-VR), there are often tens of thousands of simultaneous players.

The platform launched as a surprise launch title for the first Oculus Quest in 2019, and is also coming to Android phones this yearPICO Launched on 4.

But since most PC worlds and characters are too detailed to run on mobile chips, VRChat takes a decentralized approach. All worlds and characters must have mobile-optimized versions if creators want indie VR and mobile players to be able to join or use them. Creators can upload two versions of the same content, one for PC and another for mobile devices.

The Vive XR Elite standalone version has access to the same content types as the Quest.

Last year, VRChat added controller-less hand tracking support on Quest. Vive XR Elite also supports hand tracking,HTCIt has been continuously improved through software updates, but currently VRChat on the Vive XR Elite requires the use of a controller.

However, VRChat on the Vive XR Elite supports body tracking, which can be achieved by strapping the newly launched Vive Ultimate Trackers to the body.

HTC is selling a bundle of three Vive Ultimate Trackers (for torso and feet) for $600 until the end of the year, and the bundle also includes free $50 straps to strap them to your body.

HTC is also offering a Vive XR Elite bundle that includes three Vive Ultimate Trackers and straps for $1,500, a $250 savings over buying them separately next year.

The Vive Ultimate Tracker bundle costs more than Sony's $450 Mocopi bundle, which works with VRChat on the Meta Quest standalone version through a mobile app. But Mocopi only uses accelerometers and gyroscopes (IMUs) combined with a skeleton estimation model, while Vive Ultimate Tracker offers true six degrees of freedom (6DoF) tracking.

The Vive XR Elite standalone version has access to the same content types as the Quest.
