阿斯加德之怒2,美元在独立VR games中的最大赌注,现已推出奎斯特头戴设备。
However, the game was released without any graphical enhancements for the Quest 3 headset.
由Sanzaru GamesDeveloped by Sanzaru Games, Asgard's Wrath 2 is the sequel to the studio's original game that launched on PC VR in 2019. The sequel brings the open-world fantasy RPG to Quest players, claiming that the game boasts a 60-hour main storyline and a perfect 134 hours of content for "completionists."
The sequel was Sanzaru's first release since being acquired, and the first really highly regarded AAA game Dollar has put out for Quest. As such, the game was mass-marketed on Quest 3, which launched in October and was available for free with the purchase of the headset from release through the end of January. The game is also available for Quest 2 and Quest Pro.Pro.
The Quest 3 is even more capable than previous headsets, with more than double the GPU performance of the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chip. This has led many developers to add significant visual upgrades to their experiences on the Quest 3.
However, despite the massive marketing push and the move to give away Asgard's Wrath 2 with any Quest 3 purchase, the version of the game playable at launch was virtually identical on all three Quest headsets.
The main difference, however, is not in the graphics, but the frame rate - on Quest 3, the game runs at a fixed resolution with a frame rate of 90 Hz. we found the overall performance of the game to be solid in our in-progress review. On Quest 2 (and therefore Quest Pro), the game will run at 72Hz and use dynamic fixed line-of-sight redirection in GPU-intensive areas. I've also been told that the Quest 3 version can dynamically adjust to 72Hz if needed and use dynamic FFR in strongly plotted scenes - although I've noticed little effect of either in my playthroughs so far.
However, visually, Quest 3 doesn't have any enhancements or specific upgrades. What's more, there aren't any specific plans or confirmed timelines to add the upgrades. Dollar simply states that in the future it may "explore the feasibility of potential visual upgrades for Asgard's Wrath 2 on Quest 3."
What's very disappointing is that the flagship game - and the headset is being given away for free during the holiday season - doesn't offer any graphical upgrades for the current generation of headsets it's released on.
As we noted in our ongoing review, while Asgard's Wrath 2 features action and structure on an epic scale comparable to no other VR game, it's also clearly designed for the Quest 2 headset. As is common in other Quest 2 games, the game suffers from noticeable degradation, such as low-quality textures, popping, and simplified object geometry. This doesn't mean the game looks bad, but there's clear room to improve the visual presentation on Quest 3.
We'll be finalizing our review and overall thoughts on Asgard's Wrath 2 in the next few days - stay tuned for our final review of the game.
