Quest 3 Bundle Game Asgard's Wrath 2 Released for $59.99

Meta Quest Pro, priced at $59.99, but unlocked for free for Quest 3 users.

Despite being described as a sequel, Asgard's Wrath 2 is a standalone game that doesn't require knowledge of its predecessor's story to get into it. Of course, the team has built-in recaps of the previous story. But for those who played the original game, the story will bookend the previous installment: upgraded as a Guardian of the Universe, you must use your new powers to find Loki and thwart his evil plans in the all-new mythological realm of Ancient Egypt.

forVR gamesSetting new standards

It was shortly after the release of Asgard's Wrath in 2019 that Sanzaru began thinking about a sequel. While the team appreciated the feedback they received from critics and fans alike, they knew there was a list of areas that needed improvement.

The first game focuses on theRiftplatform, but Asgard's Wrath 2 needed to be designed for an all-in-one machine like the Quest 3/2/Pro. So, this opened up the game design in a way never seen before, as the team knew that all players could enjoy freedom of movement through the wireless headset while fighting and exploring.

From the beginning, the team wanted to make it a bigger and more complex game. For more than three years, they've been busy doing just that: expanding the story with a new cast of heroes, enemies, and companions; creating expansive roaming environments for players; adding deep RPG upgrade mechanics; and optimizing the game for optimal performance.

The main story mode alone offers 60 hours of gameplay, not including the "Uncharted Rifts" mode that allows for unlimited replay, and not including the time you spend exploring temples, caves, oases, etc. in the vast world.

Depending on your actions, you can see and do different things in the game. One of the main goals of the developers in making the sequel is to provide the player with a greater degree of freedom in the body. As the Guardian of the Universe, you will have four different mortal hero bodies, and each of them has their own saga to fulfill.

But you don't have to follow a linear path. You can spend your time exploring huge free-roaming levels. You might stumble into a hidden cave full of loot (and a bunch of enemies), or you might just want to chase side quests before returning to the main story.Sanzaru wants players to be in complete control of their gaming experience.

Major combat upgrades

This same concept of player choice applies to the completely physics-based combat system. In the first game, you had to use defensive methods and fend off enemy attacks before they could be harmed. But in the sequel, you can weaken an enemy's shields with a flurry of attacks, or use your moves to open up counterattacks and land the killing blow.

During your journey, your sword will gain the ability to transform into a whip, which will fundamentally change the way you navigate through the game: you can use the whip to draw enemies closer, or pull yourself to previously inaccessible places. The whip is both a dynamic combat style and a necessary tool for mobility.

Other playable heroes have their own version of the whip, as well as a unique set of weapons. You can further expand their arsenal with a new upgrade system. The experience points you gain from completing quests and defeating enemies will earn you skill points that feed into your character's skill tree to unlock new attacks and upgrades, including superpowers that can help you turn tough battles around.

Another fan-favorite feature that returns in Asgard's Wrath 2: AI-powered companions. They'll fight alongside you and use their powers to help you solve puzzles. As the story progresses, you'll encounter a variety of useful characters. However, their roles have been greatly expanded, such as the ability to turn into powerful beasts and allow you to ride to explore the game's vast world or make a quick escape.

As with mortal heroes, your companions earn experience points, and you can unlock additional abilities through their respective skill trees. The more time you spend with them, the more you'll learn about their personal lives and why they fight.

You can build deep friendships with your companions, and even the smallest interactions take on a whole new meaning.

However, the enemy's AI is likewise upgraded, and they'll respond to your advancements with clever counterattacks and super attacks. They can likewise ask for reinforcements and will upgrade with you so you'll always have worthy opponents.

Endless replayability

In addition to the campaign and side quests, Asgard's Wrath 2 contains numerous other activities. The biggest of these is the "Uncharted Rifts" mode. This is a Rogue-lite mode and allows you to explore procedurally generated dungeons filled with puzzles and enemies. This means you'll never experience the same level twice. The goal of the game is to see how long you can live before you die, and allows you to acquire unique equipment, loot, and treasure that you can bring back to the main story.

"Uncharted Rifts also offers asynchronous multiplayer. Whenever you die in a dungeon, you have a choice:You can have your hero become a holy spirit and automatically help other players in the adventure. Or you can send a horrible spirit to try to hurt other players. Whichever you choose, you will receive additional loot and resources.

You can spend hours completing challenges and moving from dungeon to dungeon. Get enough points and see how the leaderboards progress.

But if you just want a break from fighting and solving puzzles, you can enjoy pastimes like fishing, cooking, and building. You can also fire up a variety of mini-games and learn more about the Egyptian gods and men by talking to NPCs. It's a vibrant world full of different characters and storylines, so you're sure to find a new experience every time you go back.
