Meta Human Avatar SDK Update Improves Graphics, Finally Adds Legs

publicly available Meta Avatars SDK eventually added legs.

Past.Meta's virtual reality (VR) avatar has been widely ridiculed on social media and in the tech world for only having an upper body.

In August, Meta was in Quest In September, legs were added to Meta Avatars in the home environment of Meta Avatars, and legs also appeared in its "meta-universe" platform, Horizon Worlds. However, until now, the publicly available Meta Avatars SDK used by third-party applications such as GOLF+ and Eleven Pool has not been updated to add legs.

Version 24 is the first new release of the Meta Avatars SDK in almost six months. In addition to adding legs, it improves the graphical quality of the avatars, and makes the SDK available to On the Unity Asset Store.

These graphical improvements include "more realistic eye flashes" and "more detailed hair and clothing with normal mapping textures". And, thanks to new optimizations such as Compute Skinner, Meta claims that there's no performance loss as a result of these improvements.

We've reached out to the developers of GOLF+ and Eleven Pool to ask if they plan to add legs to their games soon, but given that we're now well into the holiday season, don't expect this work to start in the New Year.
