尽管《水果忍者》妙趣横生的历史可以追溯到十多年前,但Halfbrick Studios首席游戏程序员萨曼莎·特纳(Samantha Turner)表示,Apple Vision ProEdition is where the hardcore is. She explains, "Fruit Ninja brought new life to the touch screen when it first came out. I think we have the same potential to do something very special in this area [of spatial computing]."

Samantha understands this very well. Having worked on the Fruit Ninja series for nearly a decade, she was the perfect person to help bring the game to the new platform. We needed to understand how to bring a traditional 2D user interface into a 3D space," she says. We had all sorts of ideas: Wouldn't it be fun if players could squeeze juice out of an orange? What if they could peel back a watermelon and let the juice fly and splash all over the table and walls?"

But the team also needed to make users feel immersed. "So we came up with the idea of the flight menu," the game programmer noted. As an illustration, the flight menu refers to the old home screen that Fruit Ninja fans are so familiar with, the difference being the way it now hovers in space.

She further adds, "We wanted to bring people into the immersive space in a friendly and understandable way. Before designing the menus, we did a certain amount of work, such as generating 3D text to be placed on the virtual objects. But that didn't bring the creative freedom needed to set the theme for our world."

The theme of this thread is that the citizens of Fruitasia Fruitasia have discovered a portal to our world, and it's a portal that can magically materialize in a room. Samantha stated, "The Masters go right through the portal, and you get a sneak peek into their world."

Next, the team set out to create a satisfying and eye-catching way to allow users to interact with their space. The first question was: what is the most logical way to launch fruit at people?

She said, "The starting point for us to think about this is that you have a few square meters of space in front of you. What would the play space look like? What to do if there are chairs or tables in the way? How can we solve different scenarios for people in offices, living rooms or kitchens?"

To find out, Halfbrick built the RealityKit prototype. Samantha said, "Just being able to see that really opens up the possibilities." So what was the solution? It's a set of cannons, arranged in a semicircle at the optimal distance for an effective slashing action.

This simultaneously prompted them to think about how the player could cut through a bunch of bananas in mid-air in 3D space. The team tried various gestures and finally found a satisfactory solution. She explained, "You don't have to hold a knife, just use your hands, you yourself are the weapon."

Plus, you're a powerful weapon. When poked with your hand, you can shred pineapples and watermelons. Launch bombs by pushing them against the far wall; they'll explode at a distance without doing any damage. By brushing the palm of your hand outward, you can shoot a shuriken at floating fruit, a maneuver Turner particularly enjoys. "As satisfying as it is up close, you get a fuller sense of the shock of destroying fruit when you see what's happening from a distance," she says with a laugh. All of this is the result of exploring gestures.

Samantha added: "We've always known that the hands are at the heart of the experience. We want players to be able to grab things and knock them down themselves. We can customize the curvature of the fruit to make sure it's a comfortable fruit-cutting experience. We actually utilize the vertical position of the device itself to make sure we don't throw the fruit over your head or too low."

The result is the most immersive and possibly the most fun Fruit Ninja game to date, not only for the players but also for the creators. She concludes, "Honestly, this version is one of my favorites."
