(XR Navigation Network January 31, 2024) LCOS projection engine manufacturer Avegant has announced its Adaptive LED Lighting Architecture for LCoS: Spotligh. The team notes that by dynamically illuminating areas of LCoS microdisplays, Avegant realizes the benefits of APL average pixel levels, saving up to 90% of illumination power while improving contrast by a factor of more than 10.

In addition, Avegant says they are working with Applied Materials and Lumileds to develop advanced technologies for augmented reality.

The Spotlight display technology is said to integrate with Avegant's existing products. It retains the benefits of a small, proven light engine while providing efficient, full-color high-resolution, polarized output. The team will provide a demonstration of Spotlight display technology at SPIE Photonics West 2024.

This company commented, "Building on the success of the AG-30L2, we are very pleased to release our new Spotlight display technology. This will bring new levels of performance to the LCoS light engine, realizing the efficiency benefits of APL and higher contrast ratios. We are very excited to be working with great partners to realize a new level of system performance for the ecosystem."

It's worth noting that Avegant says they are working with Applied Materials and Lumileds to develop advanced technologies for augmented reality.
