Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links" Adapts Konami's Digital Trading Card Game for Virtual Reality Improvements
Konami has revealed a VR experience for Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Link, but has yet to confirm if a home release is planned.
Solid Illusion Experiment puts players into a virtual technology experiment guided by Muto Game's arch-nemesis, Kaimase Ren. Here, players can battle monsters such as the blue-eyed white dragon and the dark clown Saggi. You can see this episode in the following live stream of the Japanese event, which runs from 23:28 until 39:00.
It's unclear if there will be a wider release planned for Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Link Solid Illusion Experiment. In an interview with Japanese media outlet Famitsu, Duel Link producer Akitsu Terashima said that the experience "was prepared for this event, so the future is yet to be determined." However, he confirmed that Konami would like to consider showing it again at the next Tokyo Game Show, among other places.
As for possible platforms, the solid phantom experiments shown in the livestream were on Oculus Quest 3 running on it. However, in the demo and in-game host SeeReax's in-person playthrough, the headset was connected via a USB-C cable. As such, we can't say for sure if the game is running through a PC VR with a cable connection or if it's charging the Oculus Quest 3 through a connecting cable.
While Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Link Solid Phantom Experiment is the first official VR game we've seen from Konami, there have been previous fan projects that have attempted to adapt the popular series for VR. In 2019, there's an online multiplayer versus card game called Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters VR released for PC with Oculus Rift support,HTC Vive and Windows Mixed Realityheadset, but access can only be gained through the Discord server.
