During the Q&A session discussed at French game publisher Ubisoft's third financial quarter 2024 results (reported by VGC), Ubisoft co-founder and CEO Yves Guillemot was asked aboutQuest 3. Apple VisionProGuillemot expressed disappointment with sales of Assassin's Creed Nexus and confirmed that the publisher is reluctant to invest massively in VR until it is "fully developed".
Here is the full answer.
We're a little disappointed with what we've achieved with Assassin's Creed in VR. While it has performed moderately well and is still selling, we expected more sales and therefore we will not be increasing our investment in VR at this time as it is imperative that VR makes a breakthrough. While we are very impressed with what Apple has come up with and think it is an excellent piece of hardware, we will continue to view the VR business as an area that we must focus on but not invest too many resources in until it is fully developed.
In our Assassin's Creed Nexus review, we praised the game. We named it our Quest Game of the Year for 2023 and found it to be a "powerful adaptation" that delivers "some of the most enjoyable moments we've experienced in Assassin's Creed."
