Infinity Within Teases Mixed Reality and Virtual Reality Gameplay</trp-post-container

I went ahead and tried out a cool demo put out by Maze Theory called The Infinite Inside, a game that can beMeta Quest 2, 3 orProfound on the App Lab.

Virtual reality gaming has come a long way since its advent, and with headsets like the Meta Quest 3, the possibilities become even more exciting by adding full color mixed reality gaming. Typically, we'll find that most games are either entirely mixed reality or virtual reality, but why not both? In this demo, that's exactly what we get.

The Infinite Inside is just a short demo of the bigger content planned for this year, but as I play through it I can already see the potential for a game that has me looking forward to and hoping for more.

The puzzles are challenging but fair, and after solving a set of spatial puzzles, they are placed into structures on the player's own floor. I never tire of seeing these virtual objects pop up in my own environment, and the mixed reality elements of The Infinite Inside look great and really add more body to the game!

One of the first things I always look for in the overall look and sound design of a VR game is the visual and sound design of this immersive game. The developers of The Infinite Inside seem to be creating a feast for the eyes and ears. The game's environments are beautifully rendered with fine art style and detail, and the subtle use of lighting really enhances the player's immersion in the game world. The sound design is equally impressive, with ambient sound effects and relaxing music, using 3D audio technology to further enhance the overall experience.

Despite the fact that this is only an early Alpha version, The Infinite Inside has been very smooth on Meta Quest 2, 3 and Pro with no noticeable lag or performance issues. However, the control side of the game still needs to be optimized slightly, as I found myself unable to pick up puzzles on several attempts. Overall, these interactions aren't completely terrible, but they become very noticeable after a few times. So, as far as the way the game moves, The Infinite Inside takes full advantage of Meta Quest 3's room scale feature. In this game, the player can physically move around in the mixed reality portion of the game, walking around and interacting with virtual objects that exist in reality, thus adding a certain level of immersion. While in the virtual reality section, the game utilizes the common node-based teleportation system, where the player simply reaches out and grabs path points to move forward.

The teleportation style of movement is great for those who may be new to the game or prone to motion sickness when playing virtual reality games, but what about those of us who aren't? Hopefully by the time the game is officially released, Maze Theory will consider adding the option for smooth movement, as I usually prefer to play games with full motion mode enabled, so teleportation was the only thing that slightly detracted from the immersion while I was playing.

Although this current game is only a short demo of what's to come, The Infinite Inside has a lot of potential. With its immersive gameplay experience, beautiful visuals and impressive audio, coupled with the mechanic of switching between mixed and virtual reality, it's set to be a unique gaming experience. We'll see the final presentation of The Infinite Inside later this year.

If you have a Meta Quest 2, 3, or Pro, you can get the information from SideQuest or theApp LabGet the demo version in. If you're a user with a PSVR2 or Steam-based PC VR headset, you can add the game to your wish list, which is expected to launch later this year.
