MetaMeta is "retooling some of its core UI infrastructure" in order to improveQuestMeta is "retooling some of its core UI infrastructure" to improve Quest's 2D app targeting and multitasking. During an Instagram Q&A session last Thursday, Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth was asked "Can we expect any UX/UI updates to better manage multiple 2D apps/windows?" Here's Bosworth's answer, "Yes, of course. We've been working on and investing time in this long before even [Apple Vision Pro] came out, and we have some really exciting designs. In fact, retooling some of the core UI infrastructure for a richer environment has been underway for some time, and we're making good progress." He continued, "The answer is yes. I don't have a timeline for you. It's not very soon. But it is in the works."

这个问题出现在Apple VisionPro本月早些时候推出,可以轻松自由地将多个2D应用程序放置在您想要的位置。而Meta的Quest界面则因其可疑的UI和UX而受到了严厉批评。

Currently, the Quest system interface supports the simultaneous display of up to three visible 2D applications and can be switched at any time between Close View, which is primarily used for direct finger interaction as with a touchscreen, and Far View, which is designed for control using a controller or the laser pointer of a finger.

In Close View, apps can't be resized, and the side apps are attached to the middle app instead of facing you, which means visibility is awkward unless you move your body sideways. In Far View, apps can be resized but not repositioned individually.

In Close View, you can only adjust the entire interface, including additional applications, whereas in Far View you can reposition all applications together, but still cannot reposition applications individually without moving the entire interface.

There are a few other issues with the Quest interface, including the fact that the application launcher itself is a 2D application, so when popping it up to launch another application, it replaces your intermediate application.

At X Press today, Meta's VP of VR, Mark Rabkin, commented further on the Meta Improvement Program, stating that "we are very focused on improving the entire collection of complex interactions between you, your hands, and the screen/room."

Bosworth replied that the improvements won't be coming "anytime soon," so don't expect any changes in the next Quest software update. However, Meta-owned game studio BigBoxVR'smarketThe manager posted a screen recording on a previous X Media post showing an Instagram app launching separately from the system interface in Close View, suggesting that at least some of the improvements to the 2D app have been extensively tested.
