The LG-made Quest Pro 2 will reportedly ship in the first half of 2025.

A South Korean news outlet reported that the next generationQuest ProIt will be launched early next year in partnership with LG.
Mark Zuckerberg will meet with the CEO of LG Electronics on Wednesday to finalize details of the partnership, the Korea Economic Daily said, citing "industry sources." This follows his public visits to South Korea since 2014, when he was involved in refining the partnership for the Gear VR smartphone headset.

Meta isn't the only one to have plans to develop an XR headset in partnership with a Korean hardware company. Last year, Samsung announced that it would be working with Google on a headset with the latter handling the software, with a launch planned for later this year.
The new report also claims that while Meta will be in charge of the software for the new headset, webOS (the operating system for LG's TVs) will be incorporated in some way. It's unclear what this means, but if it means that the headset will essentially let you have a virtual LG TV, it could carry platforms like Netflix, Disney+, Max, Prime Video, Apple TV+, Hulu, Paramount+, and VUDU without additional development work. While Apple VisionProThe Pro is great for media viewing, including native apps for Disney+ and Apple TV+ as well as support for iPad versions of platforms such as Prime Video, but the Quest platform lacks these types of apps.Quest has a Netflix app, but it only supports streaming at 480p and does not support downloading, perspective or hand tracking.
The Quest Pro 2 may also feature Codec Avatars, Meta's project aimed at revolutionizing research and development in the field of telepresence through realistic character images driven in real time by a headset with face-tracking sensors. Apple's Personas has similar goals, but is not yet free of quirkiness and is limited to 2D windows.
With Meta and LG re-entering themarket, as well as the entry of Google and Samsung, the high-end headset market is currently served only by Apple, and a three-pronged competition may be formed next year.
