Now.Business InsiderTwo sources were quoted as confirming that Meta will indeed debut the first true AR glasses, the Orion Orion, at Connect.
Meta executives asked the augmented reality team to show off the high-tech glasses at the Connect conference, according to two people familiar with the matter. One of the people familiar with the matter noted that a handful of employees are already experimenting with advanced prototypes, even though the said AR glasses will not be sold to the public. For that matter, Meta's progress in high-tech wearables is expected to generate excitement in the industry.
Note that the augmented reality glasses are independent of the Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses and theQuestheadset, and theReality Labs has been developing the Orion Orion program for many years.
Reality Labs is currently run by Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth, but CEO Mark Zuckerberg has taken a keen interest in the projects within it and has been closely overseeing the work of Reality Labs.
Interestingly, several eyewear devices were featured in images posted by Zuckerberg earlier. Though it's not very clear to see, a source said that the photos include specific prototypes of yet-to-be-released true AR glasses.
A Meta spokesperson declined to comment at this time.
