(XR Navigation Network March 06, 2024) As XR continues to grow, so does its relevance outside of entertainment use cases. In fact, the technology has caught the attention of the CIA, who recently posted a job opening for an "Extended Reality Specialist".
The CIA is one of the main intelligence agencies in the United States, focusing on foreign intelligence and national security. This organization employs about 20,000 people, many of whom focus on information surveillance, retrieval and analysis.
To help fulfill its mission as the nation's "first line of defense," the U.S. CIA is now recruiting a"Extended Reality Specialist", with salaries ranging from $61,947 to $164,102.
As an Extended Reality Specialist, you will utilize your expertise to collaborate with CIA officers, researchers, and developers to create ways to extend and immerse the environment," the CIA writes on the job page. You will have the opportunity to demonstrate your technical expertise and program management skills to impact ICA technologies while providing you with the ability to understand all relevant AR/VR technologies. This includes but is not limited to AR/VR headsets, software development and cloud infrastructure."
Of course, CAI doesn't specifically identify the real mission of the extended reality experts. But potential speculation includes AR-enabled eye wear and invading immersive spaces, among other things.
Of course, this could include utilizing the immersive capabilities of AR/VR for remote collaboration or personnel training.
