尽管Apple VisionPro在过去十年中验证了Meta(前Facebook)在虚拟现实(VR)领域所做的大部分工作,但该头盔也在Job Simulator开发工作室Owlchemy Labs的Google旗下的工作中体现出来。

"Without knowing what Apple was going to do, we used a similar pinch-and-take gesture in our previous hand-tracking demo, so we were happy to see all of us focusing on that interaction," Eiche confirmed.

Eiche称苹果对眼部和手部追踪的组合是“非常有趣的”,并解释说Owlchemy此前在Quest Pro上进行了原型测试,尽管该头盔传感器较少,但又具有相同的基本输入组合。

Owlchemy Labs has a significant history in hand-tracking controls. In 2020, the studio provided experimental support for Vacation Simulator at Quest, and in 2021 introduced a "high-frequency hand-tracking mode" that lowered latency and improved performance, which we later called one of the best hand-tracking games at Quest. 2022 saw the studio reveal that its next project would be a multiplayer game with hand-tracking, and later released a demo of the technology. In 2022, the studio revealed that its next project would be a multiplayer game with hand-tracking, and later released a demo of the hand-tracking technology.

"The craziest thing about hand tracking is that it's going to make controller tracking better, because we're going to be able to track your hands while you're holding the controller," Eiche told us at last year's GDC, "so what's stopping you from using a peripheral? "

At GDC 2024, I asked Owlchemy how they added hand-tracking support for Job Simulator on Apple Vision Pro. eiche said they started with Vacation Simulator's hand-tracking system and built it up from there:

"In using the system we created for Vacation Simulator, we went back and dealt with some of the side cases because it was still experimental. We developed it more and then introduced it into Job Simulator. It's actually easier to get into Job Simulator than Vacation Simulator because there's no teleportation."

Eiche declined to comment on whether Job Simulator will get hand-tracking support on Quest.

Overall, it's clear that Eiche has similar views to Devin Reimer, the former CEO and CTO of Owlchemy Labs, and Eiche says he's "very much in sync" with Reimer's views expressed earlier this year in a guest commentary that outlined his Why he thinks every virtual reality developer needs a hand-tracking program.

"The winds are changing rapidly, and not having a plan can be an expensive mistake," Reimer writes.
